BIOGRAPHY
One of the earliest American players to appear in an NHL game, Abel is a member of the United States Hockey Hall of Fame and was part of the Hall`s inaugural induction class in 1973. Abel won a silver medal with the 1924 U.S. Olympic team before being recruited to the Rangers by Conn Smythe when the Blueshirts were added to the NHL in 1926. He was paired on defense with future Hall of Famer Ching Johnson and played a key role in the team`s 1928 Stanley Cup championship run.
