MISCELLANEOUS Nickname: Mac Full Name: Matthew Lamont Colville Uniform Numbers: 5, 16 Stanley Cup Champion: 1940 Retired from pro hockey: 1947
BIOGRAPHY Mac Colville joined the Rangers organization along with his older brother Neil in 1935 and spent the next 15 years with the Rangers as a player and minor-league coach. Like Neil, Mac`s time with the Rangers was interrupted during World War II when he left the NHL to serve in the Canadian Army during the 1942-43, 1943-44 and 1944-45 seasons.
Mac and Neil Colville played on the same line, along with Alex Shibicky, for the 1940 Rangers team that captured the Stanley Cup. Mac contributed five points in 12 playoff games that year.
Following his retirement as a player, Mac Colville served as head coach of the Rangers` AHL affiliate in New Haven from 1948 to 1950.
