Traded from Chicago for Earl Seibert, Coulter had an immediate impact on the Rangers and became a fixture on defense for the next seven years. A key member of the 1940 Stanley Cup championship team, Coulter led the Rangers in penalty minutes during the 12-game run to the Cup. Two years later, following his retirement from the NHL, he remained in New York for two years as a member of the Eastern Hockey League`s Coast Guard Clippers, a World War II-era team that helped raise money for the war effort.
