MISCELLANEOUS Full name: Leo Charles Reise Jr. Uniform Numbers: 5 Retired from NHL: 1954
BIOGRAPHY The son of a former Rangers player, defenseman Leo Reise Jr. finished out his career with two seasons in New York, retiring from the NHL at age 32.
Reise came the Blueshirts from Detroit in a trade for Reg Sinclair and John Morrison in the summer of 1952. With the Red Wings, Reise had been part of two Stanley Cup championship teams and had led Detroit with 27 penalty minutes during the 1952 playoffs. He was also named to two postseason All-Star teams during his years with the Wings, making the Second Team All-Star list in 1949-50 and 1950-51.
Wasting little time making an impression with his new team, Reise was the Rangers` 1953 All-Star Game representative. He played the entire 1953-54 season, retiring with nearly 500 NHL regular-season games to his credit. The numbers might have been higher, because Reise missed three hockey seasons from 1942 to1945 while serving in the Canadian Navy during World War II.
