• In 2012-13, Barkov finished second on his team in scoring with 48 points (21-27--48) in 53 games, helping Tappara finish second overall in the standings.
• Barkov has competed for Finland in the last two World Junior Championships. In his first appearance in 2012, he became the youngest Finnish player (16 years, four months) to score a goal at the tournament when he tallied against Slovakia in the quarterfinals.
• Fluent in Finnish, Russian and English, he is following in the footsteps of his father, Alexander, on the ice. His father represented Team Russia and also played for Spartak Moscow and in Italy before moving to Finland to play for Tappara. He’s currently an assistant coach for Ak Bars Kazan in the Kontinental Hockey League. Barkov’s mother, Olga, played on the Russian national basketball team.
