On October 17, Rangers alum and MSG Network’s Dave Maloney brought afternoon delight in the form of a special hospital visit and interview session at NYU Rusk. Maloney spent the afternoon with pediatric patients and their parents at NYU Rusk fielding astute questions in the MSG Network mobile studio and giving insights to his career as a Rangers defenseman and a broadcaster.
With the MSG Network mobile studio occupying the far side of the playroom, the children circled around the guest chair to wait for their special guest. Maloney greeted the children spending a few minutes with each of them and had them introduce themselves to him before answering some questions.
"It’s not every day that we get to do these types of events," said Maloney, "Each time I do, it’s always a great experience. Being a hockey player and getting to lift these kids spirit for an afternoon is great. They are all terrific kids and will go on to do something special."
The children came prepared with questions they created from Maloney’s bio and broached subjects ranging from playing hockey in New York, growing up in Canada, being an announcer, and his family. Maloney provided insight to his life as an announcer and answered all of the questions from the children. Maloney continued interacting with the children in the playroom, taking photos, signing autographs and handing out gift bags which included the unique hospital items provided by the Jennifer Ferraro Foundation, courtesy of Chris and Peter Ferraro. Before saying his final goodbyes, Dave distributed quilts, from Wrapped Up In Sports (link, wrappedupinsports.org), for the children to use during their stay. The quilts were sports-inspired quilts created using recycled apparel donated by the New York Rangers and Garden of Dreams.
