On Friday, January 4, the Rangers re-launched the “Show Kids NY” program for the 2012-13 season at Chelsea Piers. “Show Kids NY” is a program hosted in conjunction with the Garden of Dreams Foundation to help highlight some of New York City’s great offerings and attractions in a fun setting. This installation of the program saw the Rangers hold an event at the Field House at Chelsea Piers with 100 children from Garden of Dreams partner organizations.
The children from Life Center and Children’s Village arrived at the Field House after school for two hours of fun interactive activities and concluded with a pizza party. The event would resemble any child’s dream birthday party- split into three groups, the children were paired with Rangers alumni Nick Fotiu, Ron Greschner, and Brian Mullen at either the soccer field/batting cages, basketball court or rock climbing/ gymnastics. Chelsea Piers staff led them in a variety of fun games and experiences to help brighten their afternoon on a colder winter day.
“Kids are doing some rock climbing, soccer, I got rocked a couple of times in dodgeball and beat on the basketball court ,” said Ron Greschner. “But we’re having fun, the kids are having fun."
After concluding with the activities, the children joined together for a pizza party with their new Ranger friends. Before heading home they received an autographed photo from the alumni and a Rangers and Garden of Dreams gift bag full of unique items.
