Wednesday, 07.17.2013 / 5:26 PM New York Rangers

On-Ice AM Sessions New York Ranger Alumni and member of the 1994 Stanley Cup Championship team, Stephane Matteau joined the skaters on the ice for their morning practice helping them through drills designed to teach shooting plus offensive and defensive concepts. Key points were made on footwork, creating depth in the offensive zone and quick decisions with the puck.

On-Ice PM Sessions continued offensive and defensive concepts with drills such as 1 on 1 Gap Control, 2 on 2 Puck Protection and 3 on 3 with a designated shooter. Proper angles, communication and movement gave each group specific techniques to work on during their drills.

Dynamic Training was led by Coach Jason Fortino of Total Nunziato Training located in Elmwood Park, NJ. Wednesday’s program consisted of speed ladders and body weight exercises helping the players develop leg strength and quickness.

Classroom Session provided a lesson on the importance of exercise in an athlete’s life and covered the core elements of physical fitness: strength, flexibility and endurance.

Off-Ice Skills Sessions began breaking down each players low shot by taking a time to go over the fundamentals of shooting low on both left and right sides of the net. Goaltender’s improved their hand eye coordination and flexibility.
