Hartford Wolf Pack Press Release

Hartford Wolf Pack general manager Jim Schoenfeld announced today that the Wolf Pack have signed center Dave Scatchard to a Professional Tryout (PTO) agreement.

Scatchard, 31, appeared in 46 games with the Phoenix Coyotes last season, registering three goals and five assists for eight points, along with 72 penalty minutes. He missed the last 32 games of the season with a concussion, suffered on January 27, 2007 vs. Pittsburgh.

The 6-3, 220-pounder, who made his NHL debut for Vancouver on October 4, 1997 vs. Anaheim in Japan, has skated in 635 career NHL contests with Vancouver, the New York Islanders, Boston, and Phoenix, recording 125 goals and 138 assists for 263 points, along with 1,017 penalty minutes. Scatchard posted his 250th career point with a goal on March 14, 2006 at Los Angeles after suffering a broken nose earlier in the game.

During the 2001-02 season, he ranked eighth overall in the NHL in face-off percentage with a 55.1 winning percentage and, during his first NHL season, led the league in shooting percentage (15.3%) among rookies. He has also posted two goals and two assists for four points, along with 34 penalty minutes in 17 career post-season appearances, all with the New York Islanders.

In 1996-97, he played in his first full professional season with the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League, registering eight goals and seven assists for 15 points, along with 65 penalty minutes in 26 games. The season before, Scatchard joined Syracuse after the conclusion of his junior career, playing in one scoreless contest and posting seven points (two goals and five assists), along with 29 penalty minutes in 15 playoff matches.

Prior to joining the professional ranks, Scatchard appeared in 177 games over three seasons with the Portland Winter Hawks of the Western Hockey League (WHL), registering 48 goals and 69 assists for 117 points, along with 340 penalty minutes. During the 1994-95 season, he achieved career highs in games played (71), goals (20), assists (30), points (50), and penalty minutes (148). In 25 career post-season appearances, the two-way centerman registered three goals and 12 assists for 15 points, along with 39 penalty minutes.

A native of Hinton, Alberta, Scatchard was originally drafted by Vancouver in the second round, 42nd overall, in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft. On December 19, 1999, he was traded from Vancouver to the New York Islanders, along with Kevin Weekes and Bill Muckalt, for Felix Potvin, a second round draft pick (later traded to New Jersey – Teemu Laine) in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft and a third round selection (Thatcher Bell) in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.

After five seasons in the Islanders’ organization, he was signed as an unrestricted free agent by the Boston Bruins on August 2, 2005. Scatchard played 16 games for Boston during the 2005-06 season before being traded to Phoenix for David Tanabe on November 18, 2005.
