Rangers prospect Bobby Sanguinetti has been named to the United States Under-20 National Team to play at the 2008 IIHF World Junior Championships in the Czech Republic. The tournament will take place from December 26 through January 5.
Sanguinetti, 19, will be making his first appearance in the tournament. The 6-3, 190-pound defenseman has registered 17 goals and 23 assists for 40 points in 28 games this season with the Brampton Battalion of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). He currently leads all OHL defensemen in goals (17) and points (40), and is tied for third in assists (23). His 40 points are also tied for 14th overall in league scoring.
Now in his fourth OHL season, Sanguinetti has skated in 230 games with Owen Sound and Brampton, recording 58 goals and 124 assists for 182 points. He has also appeared in 20 post-season contests with Owen Sound, collecting eight goals and 15 assists for 23 points. During the 2006-07 season,
Sanguinetti ranked first in power play goals (18), second in goals (23) and 10th in points (53) among OHL defensemen, and was tabbed Owen Sound’s Defenseman of the Month for February 2007.
He was also named a 2007 OHL Western Conference All Star. After leading Owen Sound in post-season scoring with six points (three goals and three assists) in four games, the Rangers’ prospect joined the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League (AHL) on an Amateur Tryout Agreement (ATO) and collected three assists in five regular season games. The Trenton, New Jersey native was originally drafted by the Rangers in the first round, 21st overall, in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.
