POST-GAME NOTES: Rangers 1, Pittsburgh Penguins 4

The Rangers ran into a hot Pittsburgh team on Monday night at Mellon Arena, and even though they outplayed their hosts for much of the game, the Blueshirts fell to the Penguins 4-1 behind an Evgeni Malkin hat trick and 43 saves from Ty Conklin.

NOTES


* Alternate captain Brendan Shanahan was scratched once again from the Rangers lineup due to a sore knee and hamstring.

* Captain Jaromir Jagr scored the only goal for the Rangers, his 13th of the season. He now has scored six goals in his last eleven matches.

* Scott Gomez, who picked up his team-leading 32nd assist on Jagr’s goal, led the club with eight shots on goal. He has recorded 30 shots on goal in his last four games.

* Rookie defenseman Marc Staal picked up the first fighting major of his NHL career following a scrap in the closing seconds with Pittsburgh's Adam Hall.

* Winger Colton Orr dropped the gloves with Penguins enforcer Georges Laracque just seven seconds into the contest.
