POST-GAME NOTES: Rangers 1, Carolina Hurricanes 3

The Rangers got off to a fast start on Tuesday night in Carolina, scoring on a power play just 62 seconds into the first period. Unfortunately, the Hurricanes clamped down after that and rode a remarkable 34 saves from goalie Cam Ward to a 3-1 win.

NOTES

*Brendan Shanahan scored the Rangers' only goal, and it was his team-leading 16th of the season, and first in eight games.

*Sean Avery recorded 19 penalty minutes in the game, five shy of the team's season-high 24 that Avery had against the Hurricanes on Dec. 26 at The Garden.

*Rookie center Brandon Dubinsky was credited with a team-high 6 hits in the game, and also recorded 3 shots on goal.

*Nigel Dawes had four shots on goal, three in the first period.

*Defenseman Michal Rozsival blocked a game-high six shots, including one during a key 5-on-3 penalty kill in the first period.
