As part of an ongoing commitment to make dreams come true for kids in crisis, on Thursday, February 19, the Garden of Dreams Foundation, the New York Rangers, Knicks and Liberty revealed a newly refurbished visiting space at Harlem Dowling Center for Children and Family Services in Manhattan.

There to celebrate the unveiling of the space were current Blueshirt players Brandon Dubinsky, Aaron Voros and former Rangers great Adam Graves; in addition to MSG stars from both the Liberty and the Knicks.

Brandon Dubinsky represented the current Rangers at the unveiling of the newly refurbished rooms at the Harlem Dowling Center.
Over the past month, MSG Teams as well as Garden of Dreams have worked diligently to transform the space at Harlem Dowling to a state of the art facility which will enable the organization to remain as one of the nation's leading child welfare agencies. Renovations included new floors, ceilings, furniture, electronics, decorations, and more.

"It's really the generosity of others that are willing to give," said Dorothy Worrell, the Executive Director of Harlem Dowling's West Side Center. "When you think about the athletes, they don't have to give back their time and their resources, but because they care, they come back and they give to our kids and our families, it means so much to an organization like Harlem Dowling."

"I can't even explain it," explained another representative from Harlem Dowling, "because I'm really shocked when I walked back here to see something totally different from before. This is marvelous. I love it. I couldn't wait to get back here. It's like a dream."

A partner of the Garden of Dreams Foundation, Harlem Dowling is a non-for-profit multi-service agency committed to serving children and families in crisis and distress, to help give them a better chance to succeed in life.

"This is a real tangible thing," stated Graves. "You can see when you come in, it wakes you up. Regardless of whether you follow the Rangers, Knicks or Liberty seasons, it brings all of these rooms to life. Not only does it put a smile on the kids' faces, it puts a smile on the parents' and the families' faces as well as Dorothy and all of the great staff here. It's uplifting."

The refurbished Harlem Dowling Center marks the third makeover project that has been completed through the Garden of Dreams Room Refurbishment program since its launch in 2006. Previous refurbishments have been completed at Children's Village (2007) and SCO Family of Services in Brooklyn (2008), also partners of Garden of Dreams.

Dubinsky, who is in his second year with the Rangers, is proud to have been a part of the program. "It's great to see how excited everyone here at Harlem Dowling is about how the project ended up," he said. "The teams, as well as Garden of Dreams, certainly feel the same way, so I'm glad everything worked out. We're just happy to be able to help."

The Garden of Dreams Foundation, Rangers, Knicks, and Liberty would like to thank everyone who helped contribute greatly to this year's project including:
  • Samix International, Inc.
  • Tim Higgins of Kamco Supplies (Ceiling tile donor)
  • Jim Kimak of KimakDesign (Mural designer)
  • Tim MacCutchen of Applied Image (Mural installer)
