The Hartford Wolf Pack lost their first 2009 Calder Cup playoff game on Monday night, falling to the Worcester Sharks 3-2 in double-overtime at Worcester, Mass.

Matt Zaba
San Jose prospect Ryan Vesce of Lloyd Harbor, N.Y., got the game-winner at 1:07 of the second overtime, spoiling a remarkable performance by Hartford goalie Matt Zaba, who stopped 42 shots in defeat. The goal was Vesce's second of the night, coming more than two full periods after he had tied the game at 2-2.

The Pack, who won the Atlantic Division's regular-season title, lead the best-of-seven series 2-1 with Game 4 set for Wednesday night in Worcester.

It was a back-and-forth game with lots of shots, as the Sharks outshot the Pack 45-36.

Defenseman Corey Potter got the Wolf Pack on the board first with 5:44 left in the opening period.

Potter, who played a handful of games for the Blueshirts during the regular season, scored on a power play off assists from defenseman Bobby Sanguinetti and Zaba.

The Sharks came right back to tie the game, however, making it 1-1 with with 1:18 left in the period on a goal by Tom Cavanaugh.

Hartford went back in front on a goal by Rangers 2008 draftee Dale Weise at 5:01 of the second period, but the Sharks countered again, this time only 84 seconds later on a goal by Vesce of Lloyd Harbor, N.Y., at 6:25 of the middle period.

The 20-year-old Weise's goal was assisted by two other Rangers prospects in Potter, who picked up his second point of the night, and 22-year-old forward Brodie Dupont.
