Stepan, Bourque star for U.S. in 6-1 win
Rangers prospects combine for five points vs. Russians
Derek Stepan, the Rangers' 2008 second-round pick, had three assists, and Ryan Bourque, the team's 2009 third-round pick, picked up another goal and assist in the USA rout.
Bourque now has two goals and one assist in two games, while Stepan has four assists in two games. Chris Kreider, the Rangers' first-round pick in 2009, is also a member of the U.S. team that has outscored the Russians by a whopping 14-2 margin.
For the second straight night, Stepan assisted on the game's first goal -- getting the second assist on Danny Kristo's power-play tally at 8:49 of the opening period, giving the U.S. a 1-0 lead.
Stepan's third assist came on the American's fourth goal -- another power-play marker -- at 3:21 of the third period. Bourque then got into the action with an assist on Kyle Palmieri's goal at 4:265 of the third and the game's final goal at 18:16 of the third. Bourque's goal came from the slot off a feed from Vancouver draftee Jordan Schroeder.
The 29 players on the U.S. Under-20 team will be cut down to 22 in time for the 2010 World Junior Championship tournament in Saskatchewan. The World Juniors get under way in late December of 2009.
