Horak impresses in first WHL preseason game
Rangers prospect gets goal, assist after coming over from Czech Republic
Horak, who spent last year with Ceske Budejovice in his native Czech Republic, got the game's first goal on Friday, knocking in the rebound of Mitch McColm's shot to give Chilliwack a 1-0 lead with 2:25 left in the opening period.
Horak, a center, helped stake Chilliwack to a 2-0 advantage at 12:33 of the second period, feeding Ryan Howse with his first WHL preseason assist.
Like Ryan Bourque, who is playing in the QMJHL, and Evgeny Grachev, who spent last year in the OHL, Horak opted to go the major-junior route after being drafted by the Rangers in June. Selected eighth overall by Chilliwack in the Canadian Hockey League's Import Draft, Horak arrived in Canada earlier this month and reported to the Bruins' camp.
Horak's Bruins team is scheduled to play again on Saturday night at Kelowna.
Both Horak and Bourque will take a break from their major-junior preseasons to represent the Rangers at the Traverse City (Mich.) Prospects Tournament in early September.
