Tonight's Game
The Rangers face-off against the Ottawa Senators tonight at Madison Square Garden (7:00 p.m.), in their 2009-10 regular season home opener. The Blueshirts currently rank third in the Atlantic Division standings with a record of 0-1-0, and are tied for seventh in the Eastern Conference. New York enter tonight's contest having been defeated by Pittsburgh, 3-2, last night at Mellon Arena in their season opener. It was the Rangers first loss in a season opener since Oct. 10, 2003 at Minnesota. Ottawa posted a 2-4-0 record in six pre-season games. Following tonight's game, the Rangers will travel to New Jersey to face-off against the Devils on Monday, Oct. 5, at the Prudential Center (7:00 p.m.), in their third game in four days to begin the season.

* The Rangers have won their last four Garden openers, a streak last accomplished in 1989-90 to 1992-93; New York has never won five straight Garden openers.

* Marian Gaborik notched a goal in his Rangers debut last night at Pittsburgh, marking the sixth consecutive season a player recorded a goal in his debut with the team on opening night: Markus Naslund (2008-09), Chris Drury (2007-08), Brendan Shanahan (2006-07), Marcel Hossa and Jason Strudwick (2005-06), and Jan Havlac (2003-04).

* The Rangers ranked seventh in the NHL at home last season with a record of 26-11-4 (56 pts.) in 41 games; the Senators posted a record of 14-23-4 (32 pts.) in 41 road games to finish 26th in the league.

* Vinny Prospal has 21 assists and 24 points in 33 career regular season games against Ottawa; Christopher Higgins (28 games) and Ales Kotalik (38 games) have each tallied 10 career goals vs. the Senators; Gaborik has recorded four goals and eight points in six career regular season games against Ottawa.

* Gaborik (Mar. 16, 2004) and Higgins (Nov. 11, 2008) have each registered a hat trick against Ottawa.
