Rangers Welcome Power to Learn Teachers to MSG
On Monday, September 21 and Thursday, September 24, the Rangers and Power to Learn hosted an orientation at Madison Square Garden for teachers participating in the 2009-10 NY Rangers Math MVPs program.

Designed for 5th and 6th grade math students, the Math MVPs program provides a standards-based math curriculum in 3 multi-lesson units to reinforce concepts being covered in the classroom in a fun and accessible way. As a part of the program, which began in 2007-08, participating classes receive Rangers related incentives to reward student math achievement.

"We?re thrilled to have so many fantastic teachers sign up for the program this year," said Rod Gilbert, who stopped by to greet the teachers on Thursday.

The orientation, which is a new addition to the program this season, was well received by the teachers who had an opportunity to ask questions and hear from teachers who participated in the program last season. It also allowed them to meet and have photos taken with Gilbert and Nick Fotiu, who dropped in on Monday evening?s orientation.

In addition to learning about the classroom program and meeting former Rangers players, the teachers were also briefed on the Math MVPs postcard club. The postcard club, designed for any student in grades 1-6, encourages students to test their math skills online and earn a personalized postcard from a NY Rangers player.

Following each of the orientations, the teachers were invited to attend the corresponding pre-season game and were given complimentary food vouchers as well as gift bags. For more information on Power to Learn, please visit powertolearn.com.
