Rangers family reaches out to keep kids warm

The Garden of Dreams 4th Annual Children’s Winter Coat Drive received over 800 coats from Rangers fans through the collection of coats at November home games and area rink partners.  In an effort to distribute the coats to Garden of Dreams partners, Rangers Chris Drury and Marc Staal, and alumnus Adam Graves made deliveries in December.  One additional delivery was specifically designed for a group of children at Children’s Aid Society.

The Fashion Show portion of the Dec. 9 event was hosted by supermodel Kim Alexis, who introduced all the kids to the audience.
On Wednesday, December 9, a group of the New York Rangers’ wives and significant others transformed the Children’s Aid Society’s East Harlem Center gymnasium into a Coat Boutique and Fashion Show Runway.  The players’ wives and significant others pitched in to prep the children for the show, helping with hair, makeup and teaching the kids how to perfect their runway strut!

Children were welcomed with a pizza party before heading into the gymnasium to select their new coats.  Upon selecting the coats, children signed up for the Fashion Show, and received make up and props for their runway debuts.

Once every child had selected a coat, the wives and girlfriends took seats along the runaway for a Fashion Show hosted by supermodel Kim Alexis. Alexis introduced all the children to the stage individually first while the audience snapped photos.
The night closed with the children joining the wives and significant others on stage for a final photo to commemorate their evening.

For 150 Years, the Children’s Aid Society has had a single mission: to do whatever New York City’s neediest children need. Its goal is to ensure the physical and emotional well being of children and families, and to provide every child with the support and opportunities needed to become a happy, healthy and successful adult.

The Rangers would like to thank the Rangers fans for their overwhelming support of the annual children’s coat drive.  Without the graciousness of the fans, the collection of over 800 coats and the special deliveries would not have been possible this holiday season.
