Rangers legend delivers Zamboni-shaped toy chest to kids

New York Rangers legend Rod Gilbert visited the Ronald McDonald House of New York on Tuesday, May 4 on behalf of the Rangers organization and Garden of Dreams Foundation.
The hall of famer’s visit was extra special for the kids and families staying at the house. Not only did Gilbert deliver a Zamboni-shaped toy chest filled with Rangers goodies, he also set up a hockey activity in the lobby for the kids.
“I always enjoy spending time with the children here,” stated Gilbert who signed autographs, posed for pictures and handed out goodies after offering hockey tips to those who participated in his hockey demonstration.
One of the Garden of Dreams' charity partners, the Ronald McDonald House of New York provides temporary housing for pediatric cancer patients and their families. It is the largest facility of its type in the world. The House can accommodate 83 families, and it is filled to capacity almost every night. There, families find a strong, supportive and caring environment, which encourages and nurtures the development of child-to-child and parent-to-parent support systems.
Gilbert, who is the Rangers all-time leading scorer with 1,021 points, has been a big supporter of Ronald McDonald House over the years and admires the courage he sees in the children the organization serves. “It is a difficult situation for these children and families,” he said. “And to see the strength in all of them is inspiring.”
