Tournament Preview

Today's Game
NYR VS. ”CBJ"
The Rangers prospects begin play in the Traverse City Prospects Tournament in Traverse City, Mich., today. The Blueshirts' first opponent is a team of Columbus Blue Jackets prospects that includes 2010 No. 4 overall draft pick Ryan Johansen. Game time is 3:30 p.m. ET. A year ago, the Blue Jackets finished last in the eight-team Traverse City field, while the Rangers placed third. Despite last year's finish, the Blue Jackets have a strong history at this event and were most recently champions in 2006, the first year the Rangers sent a team to Traverse City. Columbus was also the Rangers' title-game opponent when the Blueshirts won their first Traverse City championship in 2007. Both teams will be led by AHL head coaches, with the Hartford Wolf Pack's Ken Gernander directing the Rangers prospects and Rob Riley, coach of the Springfield Falcons, behind the bench for Columbus.

Today's Opponent
John Moore
The Blue Jackets have the largest roster in the tournament with 29 players. Ranked 10th overall in the 2010 Hockey News Future Watch edition for the strength of prospects in their organization, Columbus enters the tournament with one member of the Future Watch Top 50 in defenseman John Moore (No. 32), who was the Blue Jackets' 2009 first-round pick. Moore is one two first-rounders on the Columbus team, along with Johansen, the team's youngest player. Eight members of Columbus' 29-man roster took part in last year's Traverse City tournament, but the Blue Jackets have one of the younger teams in the tournament with six of their eight 2010 draft picks on hand and half the roster age 19 or younger. Only two Blue Jackets have ever played at the pro level, compared to four Rangers players who come into this game with some AHL experience. Coumbus has six players picked in the first three rounds of their respective NHL drafts, while the Rangers, the No. 5 team in Future Watch rankings, have a tournament-high of 10.
