Rangers prospect Ethan Werek, the team's second-round pick in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, received a big honor from the Ontario Hockey League on Thursday, when he was among only five players chosen to compete in both of the OHL's Subway Super Series games against Team Russia on Nov. 11 and Nov. 15.
An alternate captain of the Kingston Frontenacs, Werek has his 2010-11 season off to a big start with six goals and 11 points in seven games, including at least one point in all seven of those games.
Thomas, one of the top scorers in the OHL with a remarkable 10 goals and 15 points in eight games, also had a seven-game point-scoring streak for his Oshawa Generals team this season and was a teammate of Werek's in Traverse City.
Thomas already has a hat trick this season against Werek's Kingston team and also scored eight goals iin his first four OHL games after returning from the Rangers' main training camp.
Based on their play so far this season, all three of the Rangers prospects are likely to receive strong consideration for spots on Canada's 2011 World Junior Championship team, although Werek was the only one of the three who took part in Canada's summer evaluation camp.
