Rangers 2010 draft pick Jesper Fasth scored two goals on Thursday afternoon at the World Junior Championship tournament, helping Team Sweden to a 6-3 victory over the Czech Republic at Niagara University in Lewiston, N.Y.

With the victory, Fasth and his Swedish teammates improved to a perfect 3-0-0 at the World Juniors, heading into a showdown with fellow unbeaten Canada on Friday night. A sixth-round Rangers selection who plays for Jonkoping HV-71 in the Swedish Elite League, Fasth now has three goals and four points in the three tournament games.

On Thursday, Fasth notched his first goal at 17:08 of the opening period, giving Sweden a 3-1 lead. On the play, the speedy winger collected the puck in his own zone, skated through the neutral zone, and unleashed a tricky shot from the high slot that completely fooled Czech goaltender Marek Mazanec.

Fasth scored his second goal on a power play at 5:42 of the middle period, stretching the Swedish lead to 5-1 at the time. The goal came after Johan Larsson won a faceoff back to Calle Jarnkrok at the left point. Jarnkrok, the game's MVP for Sweden, slid a perfect pass to Fasth on the doorstep in front of relief goalie Filip Novotny's crease, and a wide-open Fasth shot the puck up over Novotny for the power-play tally.

Fasth, who was plus-1 for the game, had four shots on goal in the first period, one in the second, and one in the third to tie for the Swedish lead with six on the game. The Swedes outshot the Czechs 45-21.

Rangers 2009 draftee Roman Horak skated for the Czech team, finishing the game with three shots on goal to also tie for his team lead. Horak was also called for high-sticking and slashing penalties in the second and third periods.

Horak and the Czechs will face Russia on Friday. The loser of that game will be out of medal contention.
