In the spirit of the holiday season and as part of an ongoing commitment to make dreams come true for kids in our area, the New York Rangers and Garden of Dreams Foundation brought back their annual coat drive to help keep New York’s children warm this winter. This marked the fifth consecutive year fans were able to contribute a gently used or new children’s winter coat for the Rangers to deliver to the children and families of Garden of Dreams partner charities.

After the coats were collected, Rangers current players and alumni, as well as members of the Rangers wives and significant others group helped distribute them to local organizations in the area and help the children pick out their perfect coat.
On Tuesday, December 7, Chris Drury and Michal Rozsival delivered coats to over 100 kids from Harlem Dowling, a partner of Garden of Dreams. Harlem Dowling, a not-for-profit child welfare agency, serves and assists children and their families in crises and distress. Among the services that Harlem Dowling provides are: foster care, adoption, preventative services, and related assistance to children and their families to enable them to live in a stable and nurturing environment. In addition to distributing the coats, Drury and Rozsival signed autographs and took pictures while spreading holiday cheer. The kids received snacks and gift bags as well.
“This is my fourth year participating in the Rangers coat drive,” said New York Rangers Captain, Chris Drury. “It’s an amazing program and definitely one of my favorite team events. Everyone deserves and needs a warm coat in the winter, especially a New York winter.”

“Especially this time of year,” stated Graves, “As we all know it’s getting colder out there so it’s imperative to dress warm and stay warm. It’s great to see these kids have the opportunity to grab themselves a special coat, a bite to eat and be able to hangout and celebrate a little.”
For the third and final delivery of coats, members of the Rangers’ wives and significant others group hosted a special fashion show event at the Children’s Aid Society East Harlem Center gymnasium. For 150 Years, the Children’s Aid Society has had a single mission: to do whatever New York City’s neediest children need. Its goal is to ensure the physical and emotional well being of children and families, and to provide every child with the support and opportunities needed to become a happy, healthy and successful adult. Children’s Aid Society is a partner of Garden of Dreams.
For this particular event, the group of NYR Ladies helped transform the facility into a Coat Boutique and Fashion Show Runway. Children were welcomed with a pizza party before heading into the gymnasium to select their new coats. Upon selecting the coats, children signed up for the Fashion Show, and received make up and props for their runway debuts. Once every child had selected a coat, the wives and significant others took seats along the runaway for a Fashion Show hosted by supermodel Kim Alexis. Alexis introduced all the children to the stage individually first while the audience snapped photos. Surely an experience the kids will never forget!
