On Monday, January 17th, the New York Rangers and the Ronald McDonald House of New York held its Annual Skate with the Greats Event at Rockefeller Center.

This special celebration marked the 17th year that the Ronald McDonald House and the Rangers have teamed up to raise money for children with cancer and their families.

Rangers rookie Derek Stepan signs an autograph for a young fan during the annual "Skate with the Greats" event at Rockefeller Center to benefit the Ronald McDonald House of New York. Stepan was one of four current Rangers players at the event, which also featured numerous Blueshirts alumni.

This year’s event featured current Rangers Martin Biron, Brandon Dubinsky, Steve Eminger and rookie Derek Stepan alongside long time Ronald McDonald House supporters Brian Leetch and Rod Gilbert. Many other distinguished Rangers alumni were on hand to support the cause as well including Ron Duguay, Nick Fotiu, Glen Anderson, Pat Hickey, Brian Mullen, Pete Stemkowski and Gilles Villemure.

“It’s one of my favorite, most rewarding events that I do,” said Gilbert. “And this is the best city in the world to have an event like this.”

Throughout the evening, fans had an opportunity to skate with a number of former Rangers as well as two from the current team, Dubinsky and Eminger.

“I’m really happy to be here and get an opportunity to spend some time with the kids,” said Dubinsky. “It is such a great cause and it’s exciting for all of us.”

The event also included dinner, auctions and an autograph session with the Rangers from the past and present.

“I just want to thank the Rangers again this year in 2011 for coming through for us,” said Bill Sullivan, President of Ronald McDonald House. “The wonderful kids at the Ronald McDonald House that are suffering from cancer, we get by with a little help from our friends. And the Rangers have been great friends to us.”

Since 1994, the Skate with the Greats event has successfully raised over $7 million for the Ronald McDonald House of New York, whose mission is to provide a home away from home for children undergoing active treatment.

The Ronald McDonald House of New York is supported in part by the Rangers and is a partner of the Garden of Dreams Foundation, a non-profit charity that works closely with the New York Rangers and all areas of Madison Square Garden to make dreams come true for children facing obstacles.
