The Rangers prospects begin play in the Traverse City Prospects Tournament in Traverse City, Mich., tonight. The Blueshirts' first opponent is a team of St. Louis Blues prospects that includes two players who have seen NHL action in left wing Stefan Della Rovere and center Phil McRae, the son of former NHL player Basil McRae. Game time is 7 p.m. ET and will air on MSG. Fans outside the Rangers' broadcast territory can watch the MSG broadcast on the NHL Network. Last year, the Blues finished seventh in the eight-team Traverse City field, while the Rangers placed fifth. Despite last year's finish, the Blues have an outstanding history at this event and won four of the first seven Traverse City tournaments. The Blues last faced the Rangers in 2009, when the Blueshirts edged them to capture third place.

The Blues have brought only 22 players to Traverse City -- three fewer than the Rangers -- but they have one of the most experienced groups, including the two players with NHL experience in Della Rovere and McRae. Four other St. Louis players saw time in the American Hockey League last season, including forwards Anthony Nigro and Tyler Shattock, who spent the entire season in Peoria. Two St. Louis forwards and two Blues defensemen were second-round NHL Entry Draft picks, and the Blues are going with older players to balance out the five 18-year-old draft picks from 2011. The Blues also have a veteran tournament goalie in Jake Allen, who went head-to-head with Rangers netminder Scott Stajcer
in the third-place game two years ago.
