NYR, GDF support Hockey Fight Cancer

In support of the National Hockey League’s Hockey Fights Cancer initiative, the New York Rangers and the Garden of Dreams Foundation held a Hockey Fights Cancer Awareness Night on Saturday, October 29, 2011.

Head coach John Tortorella and the rest of the Blueshirts coaching staff wore special Hockey Fights Cancer ties during the Oct. 29 game vs. Ottawa at The Garden. They ties were also worn that night by Rangers executives and MSG broadcasters.

As a part of the Awareness Night, the Rangers and Garden of Dreams hosted children and families from partner organization Ronald McDonald House of New York for a “Dream Night” at Madison Square Garden.

The children had an opportunity to sit rink-side for warm-ups with MSG broadcasters before watching the Rangers take on the Ottawa Senators from a luxury suite. Former Ranger Great Rod Gilbert visited with the children during the game, taking pictures, signing autographs and distributing special gift bags.

In addition to meeting Rangers alumni and broadcasters, the group had the thrill of being welcomed on GardenVision during the game -- an experience that they will never forget.

Also as a part of the Awareness Night, Rangers players wore Hockey Fights Cancer decals on their helmets (decals worn for the entire month of October) along with pink chin straps. Additionally, to raise awareness for this important cause, special Hockey Fights Cancer ties were worn by Rangers hockey executives, coaching staff and MSG broadcasters during the game and there were Hockey Fights Cancer photo books on sale at the Madison Square Garden Team Store with a portion of the proceeds benefitting Hockey Fights Cancer.
