Whale's leading scorer returns to AHL after four-game sting with Rangers
Newbury, 31, has tallied one assist in five games with the Rangers this season, including an assist in four games since being recalled on March 23.
He recorded an assist on Sunday against Washington, in his first game with the team following his recall. Newbury made his season debut with the Rangers on January 24 at Philadelphia.
The Brampton, Ontario native returns to Connecticut where he has registered 18 goals and 38 assists for 56 points, along with 116 penalty minutes in 62 games with the Whale this season. He was tied for sixth in the AHL in points, fourth in assists, and fifth in power play assists (17) at the time of his recall.
Newbury leads Connecticut in points, assists, and power play assists, is tied for second in goals and shorthanded goals (two), and ranks second in power play goals (six), shots on goal (148), and penalty minutes.
Newbury was acquired by the Rangers from Detroit in exchange for Jordan Owens on March 3, 2010. He was originally selected by the San Jose Sharks as a fifth round choice, 139th overall, in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
