2013 New York Rangers Youth Hockey Camp presented by Chase: Day 1
Future Rangers hit the ice for the first time at Youth Hockey Camp
|Players work on their fundamentals with the coaching staff.|
On-Ice AM Sessions: A heavy focus on skating speed, agility and transitions. Our Patrick, Norris and Adams Group went through age specific variations of crossovers/transitions, over-speed figure 8’s, timing pivot passing and stop/start- give and go.
On-Ice PM Sessions: Focused on edge control filtering the players through tight turns, forward/backward skating and over-speed crossovers. Goaltenders worked directly with their lead on-ice coach going over footwork and proper movement.
Dynamic Training: Led by Coach Jason Fortino of Total Nunziato Training located in Elmwood Park, N.J., today’s focus was on speed and agility, power/acceleration and increasing core strength.
Classroom Session: Introduced the camps nutritional component. Nutritional logs were distributed to assist all campers in logging their progress throughout the week. Prizes will be awarded at the end of the week to the camper who performs the greatest in this area.
Off-Ice Skills Sessions: Consisted of sick handling for the defensemen and forwards. Goaltenders continued developing their skills off the ice as well through hand eye coordination drills led by a dedicated goaltending instructor.
Tomorrow’s Preview: Former Rangers goalie Kevin Weekes stops by camp.
