2013 New York Rangers Youth Hockey Camp presented by Chase: Day 3 Recap
On-Ice AM Sessions: Were programmed around shooting and offensive/defensive concepts. Shooting off a rebound and 2 on 1 net front battle drills are just two examples coaches used to implement quick decisions, lateral movement and patience with the puck. Former New York Rangers goaltender and current NHL Network Analyst, Kevin Weekes joined the kids on the ice working primarily with the goaltenders.
On-Ice PM Sessions: Included an appearance by current New York Rangers forward Brian Boyle. Number 22 assisted our players in drills such as Stick Checks, 2 on 2 Puck Protection and Low Net Coverage. Each of these drills helped campers to develop better mobility and body positioning. Goaltenders continued their position specific training with proper rebound control on the ice.
Dynamic Training: Led by Coach Jason Fortino of Total Nunziato Training located in Elmwood Park, N.J., today’s lesson revolved around explosive movements while continuing to enforce the importance of a strong core.
Classroom Session Day 3: Helped kids understand the components of physical fitness while encouraging them to brainstorm exercise activities.
Off-Ice Skills Sessions: Included a full lesson on the fundamentals of a low shot as goaltenders focused mainly on footwork to complete their day.
Tomorrow’s Preview: Rangers legend Adam Graves stops by to assist in the teaching.
