2013 New York Rangers Youth Hockey Camp presented by Chase: Week 2 Day 3 Recap
On-Ice AM Sessions: New York Ranger Alumni and member of the 1994 Stanley Cup Championship team, Stephane Matteau joined the skaters on the ice for their morning practice helping them through drills designed to teach shooting plus offensive and defensive concepts. Key points were made on footwork, creating depth in the offensive zone and quick decisions with the puck.
On-Ice PM Sessions: Continued offensive and defensive concepts with drills such as 1 on 1 Gap Control, 2 on 2 Puck Protection and 3 on 3 with a designated shooter. Proper angles, communication and movement gave each group specific techniques to work on during their drills.
Dynamic Training: Was led by Coach Jason Fortino of Total Nunziato Training located in Elmwood Park, NJ. Wednesday’s program consisted of speed ladders and body weight exercises helping the players develop leg strength and quickness.
Classroom Session: Provided a lesson on the importance of exercise in an athlete’s life and covered the core elements of physical fitness: strength, flexibility and endurance.
Off-Ice Skills Sessions: Began breaking down each players low shot by taking a time to go over the fundamentals of shooting low on both left and right sides of the net. Goaltender’s improved their hand eye coordination and flexibility.
Tomorrow’s Preview: Members of the 1994 Stanley Cup Championship team, Adam Graves and Stephane Matteau, return to camp to help lead the players on the ice.
