2013 New York Rangers Youth Hockey Camp presented by Chase: Week 3 Day 3 Recap
On-Ice AM Sessions: Ranger alumni Nick Fotiu joined the players in morning practice. The former #22 was the first blueshirt to be born and raised in New York City and play for the team. Fotiu coached campers through shooting drills and offensive concepts that develop creativity, quicker release and better footwork.
On-Ice PM Sessions: Covered a progression in offensive concepts through drills like 2 on 2 puck protection, race for the puck and tight circle games. Goaltending instruction focused on butterfly slides and economic movement.
Dynamic Training: Was led by Coach Jason Fortino of Total Nunziato Training located in Elmwood Park, NJ. Wednesday players developed quicker feet, faster hands and greater core strength.
Classroom Session: Challenged campers to answer the importance of exercise in their life as well as the life of an athlete performing at any level. The discussion revolved around the core elements of physical fitness: strength, flexibility and endurance.
Off-Ice Skills Sessions: Campers went back to breaking down low shots on both the near and far side of the net. All players were stationary focusing on the details of their form. Goalies continued hand eye coordination with an elimination game.
