2013 New York Rangers Youth Hockey Camp presented by Chase: Week 4 Day 1 Recap
On-Ice AM Sessions: New York Ranger alumni Stephane Matteau joined players for morning skate and instructed the kids on skating speed. Players ran through drills such as timing pivot passing, race for the puck and over speed figure 8’s.
On-Ice PM Sessions: Current New York Ranger Derek Dorsett joined players for afternoon practices offering instruction on puck protection and balance. Practice plans covered edge control, quick feet and moving your feet after the shot. Goaltenders began their instruction covering low and high rebound control as well as tracking the puck.
Dynamic Training: Was led by Coach Jason Fortino of Total Nunziato Training located in Elmwood Park, NJ. Monday’s program mirrored on-ice practices reinforcing the importance of quick feet and building a strong core.
Classroom Session: Introduced a nutritional component as part of the focus for this year. Nutritional logs were handed out to each of the players in order to help track their daily exercise and eating habits.
Off-Ice Skills Sessions: Instructed players on the fundamentals of passing. Goaltenders increased flexibility before breaking into small area hand eye coordination games.
