2013 New York Rangers Youth Hockey Camp presented by Chase: Week 4 Day 3 Recap
|Rangers defenseman Dan Girardi meets with campers on Wednesday.|
On-Ice AM Sessions: New York Ranger alumni Ron Greschner joined campers during morning skate and instructed players on offensive/defensive concepts. Station work included high/low 2-on-2 Tip-Ins, lateral movement shooting and 2-on-1, 1-on-1 Battle in front of the net. Each drill demanded players make quick decisions, create scoring chances as well as battle for position.
On-Ice PM Sessions: Current New York Rangers defensemen Dan Girardi stopped by to sign for each camper before coaches jumped back into offensive/defensive concepts. Goaltenders focused on proper butterfly movement and reading the play.
Dynamic Training: Was led by Coach Jason Fortino of Total Nunziato Training located in Elmwood Park, NJ. Wednesday’s program allowed campers to work on upper body strength, quick hands as well as build a stronger core.
Classroom Session: Completed a lesson on the importance of physical activity during a players daily routine and covered the core elements of physical fitness: strength, flexibility and endurance.
Off-Ice Skills Sessions: Broke down the fundamentals of shooting low toward the near and far side of the net. Goaltender programming centered around flexibility.
