The Steven McDonald Extra Effort Award has been presented each season since 1987-88 to the Rangers player who goes above and beyond the normal call of duty, and is named in honor of paralyzed New York City police officer Steven McDonald.
Goaltender Cam Talbot was named recipient of the award for 2014-15. For nearly two months, Talbot was the man in net for the Blueshirts, due to an injury to starter Henrik Lundqvist. In Lundqvist’s absence, Talbot, 27, went 16-4-3 with two shutouts in 23 games, and was named one of the NHL’s top-three stars twice. He had two separate four-game winning streaks and never lost two games in regulation in a row.
